It seems the world changed yesterday with regards to our access to Sportfishing in Mexico.
In reality it did, but not in such a way that it will impact our favorite pastime.
Yesterday, the Immigration office of Baja Norte reinforced a procedure that has been on the books for many years.
The fact is, our fleet has been working with the government of Mexico these past few years with regards to the documentation we are required to possess when fishing certain regions.
Currently, as has been the case the past 2 years, anglers are required to have a Visa or FMM issued, and in possession, when fishing within 12 miles of their coast or Island waters.
The landings have been able to issue these Visa’s or FMM’s when the angler produces a current or valid government issued ID or birth certificate.
Yesterday, May 27, 2015 Mexico reiterated the fact that we, the landing, are still able to issue the Visa’s or FMM’s, however the only valid form of identification to do so, will be a current Passport.
Now keep in mind, this is only required when we access near coastal waters such as the Baja Coast or the Coronado’s.
When fishing 12 or more miles from these areas, everything remains the same, and there is NO change.
So when fishing offshore, and we are, there is no change and it’s important for anglers to understand that point.
We are on the verge of one of the most explosive seasons ever, and it’s full speed ahead for San Diego Sportfishing.
Massive schools of Bluefin await the angler offshore. The past few days, vessels in our fleet engaged with and landed triple digit Bluefin. These are fish of a lifetime.
Warm water continues to push north and some of our fleet fishing to the south engaged with schools of 40 to 50lb Yellowfin…and it’s only May!
Strap yourself in, as it’s going to be an incredible season.
We look forward to fishing with you from H&M Landing.
Jeff is live from the Thunderbird out of Daveys Locker. They shot the moon today and hit the offshore sean. So far they have 3 nice sized bluefin tuna to about 40+ pounds. Bigger fish are off in the distance boiling up. Jeff is live below to tell you all about it.
If you are going to be fishing a trip in Mexico that requires taking "visas" you will need a passport, your drivers license is no longer considered a valid ID, this will affect fishing the Coronado Islands more than anything.
Calvin checking in from the Helena out of Dana wharf Sportfishing as they looked at a lot of bluefin today but not really any action. They pulled in 8 yellowtail to 35 pounds for the small group and more.
